I used to think missing out meant losing something. Getting older taught me something different. Less of one thing can sometimes mean more of another.
The real shift wasn’t learning to say no. It was learning to prioritise what actually mattered, and doing smaller amounts of both when I could.
Drink heavily one night, and the next day you might not feel great. Know that going in, and be at peace with it. Better yet, find the humour in it. The truth is you’ll remember a wild night out full of mischief and adventure a decade from now. You won’t remember the hangover.
My life is built on stories. Memories I fondly share with friends, and new ones we’re still creating together.
But here’s the rub. Sometimes waking up fresh and actually enjoying the day outweighs the night before. Sometimes an early night and skipping dinner buys you a mindful, grateful morning that sets up the whole day.
Nobody else gets to tell you which one’s worth it, and when. That’s yours to weigh up, every time. Life comes down to finding that balance, and when you find it, you’ll be a lot happier for it.
The only real question
What would I prefer more? FOMO isn’t about missing out. It’s about what you’re gaining by missing out.
